Before Mary became a Royal Highness, her life was very different.
With only ten nights of sleep to go until the great change of throne of Denmark, all eyes are of course focused on the future king and queen, Frederik and Mary. And now that people are curious about the future royal couple, this sometimes produces special images from the archives!
Scottish-Australian queen
If you had told a little Mary that she would become Queen of Denmark at the age of 51, she would probably have laughed in your face. The future queen of the Scandinavian country was born on the island of Tasmania, down under in Australia. A life as an aristocrat’s daughter was therefore not possible for the Australian young lady with her Scottish parents.
So Mary goes to school and finds her niche in the marketing world. When she meets her Prince Charming, her life naturally changes considerably, and the rest, as we know, is history.
Commercial
But now that we have delved deeply into the history of the future queen, a special piece of video from the then marketing professional was found: Mary had a role in a special TV commercial in the distant past!
For example, we see HRH in a black suit and serious business glasses reading a newspaper on the train. Nothing crazy at first glance, but the commercial takes a special turn. Curious about what exactly happens in the compartment with the future highness? Below you can see the video:
The video was made for the V/Line, a train service through the Australian province of Victoria, and could have been seen around 1998.
Your Highness
A few years later, the Australian lady would meet her prince (without a white horse) in an Australian pub during the 2000 Summer Olympics. In an interview in 2005, Mary revealed that at first she had no idea who the Danish young man actually was. “At our first meeting, we shook hands. I didn’t know he was the prince of Denmark. Half an hour later someone came up to me and said, ‘Do you even know who these people are?’” Ha!
Many years have now passed and we know that Mary’s career as an actress has not progressed much further than this. But hey, a role as HKH is of course also worth something, right?
