According to presenter Tatyana Beloy, this is the reason why Big Brother is always popular

Soon many will be watching 24/7 live streams again. A new season of Big Brother starts on Monday January 15 and this year it is a special season. The first season was broadcast exactly 25 years ago. Ooh! Why is it that this reality program is still so popular? Presenter Tatyana Beloy may have an explanation for this. According to her, this is the reason why viewers are quickly hooked.

Big Brother 2024: Anniversary Season

The very first episode of Big Brother aired on TV in the late 1990s. Then TV viewers learned about the concept, where a group of participants were thrown into one villa. Here they were then locked up for 106 days. Ultimately, one winner would later go home with 250,000 guilders at the time. The first winner was Bart Spring in ‘t Veld.

We are now many seasons later and everything has become more modern. The participants also change over time. Yet people continue to watch the people in the house en masse, who they can now follow 24/7. Thanks to the internet and social media, the people from the Big Brother house are closer than ever. Why is Big Brother so popular again and again? The Flemish presenter Tatyana Beloy, who presents it together with the Dutch Geraldine Kemper, may know the answer to that. To LINDA. she explains what she believes is the reason why the reality program is so successful.

Why does it remain popular?

Tatyana herself immediately followed Big Brother, as soon as it first came on TV in the 1990s. She herself was thirteen years old at the time. “I remember following it closely at the time,” she says. “We really all came together to watch it.” She immediately became enthusiastic when she was allowed to present it. Yet it remains bizarre that people like to watch other people doing normal things such as arguing, eating, falling in love, showering, snoring… What’s fun about that? “Why do we look at TikTok or Instagram and follow people?” Tatyana then wonders. “Just as we are addicted to following people on social media, we are also addicted to following the people in the house.” Makes sense.

In addition, Tatyana thinks that the authenticity of the participants also helps. At a certain point, as a viewer, you also have to deal with the emotions of residents. “Most residents come in thinking they are definitely going to win,” she explains. “Eventually there will be a breaking point and they will have a harder time than expected.” And then the interesting TV begins!

Let’s hope that the coming season is again full of arguments, drama and emotions. Monday, January 15, 2024 is the start of the new season of Big Brother. You can see a new episode every working day at 8:30 PM on RTL5. You will then see the live show every Saturday at 8 p.m., again on RTL5. In between, you can follow Big Brother live streams 24/7 via the Videoland streaming service.
