Oh, drama at the Meilandjes! The latest book about our favorite reality family has caused quite a fuss. Especially Montana’s ex, Dirk Hoogstraten, is not exactly spared. But luckily he has an ally: Jaap Meiland, Martien’s brother!
Dirk as a thrill seeker? Jaap disagrees
In the book De Familie – Achter de scène bij de Meilandjes director Timon Moll and writer Jan Dijkgraaf go all out on Dirk. But Jaap totally disagrees. In the weekly magazine Story he says: “I think it’s nonsense that Dirk is treated unfairly. Because of the experience I have with Dirk, I know that he is a good boy. And that he broke up with Montana, that’s possible. These things happen in life.”
Timon Moll calls Dirk “dispensable” in Chateau Meiland
Earlier, Timon Moll had already said that Dirk was actually superfluous in Chateau Meiland. According to him, Dirk was not present enough and the viewers did not get enough energy from him. But Jaap does not understand those negative words at all: “Nothing but good things to say about Dirk. He also comes from a nice family, they are very sweet people. They do not deserve this”, says Jaap.
Book does not make a flying start in the Bestseller 60
Despite all the fuss, the book didn’t really start off with a bang. In the Bestseller 60 it debuted at number 41, while previous Meiland biographies did make it into the top 10 in their first week. Maybe they should be a bit nicer to Dirk next time?
Heart complaints
Earlier, Timon revealed that Martien suddenly felt very ill during the recordings of Chateau Meiland. He was so sad that he appeared on camera crying, dressed in a bathrobe. “He had heart problems and could hardly breathe,” Timon told RTL Boulevard. “We filmed everything because we didn’t know what was going on.” But it soon became clear that Martien’s complaints had a different cause. He had online contact with a man who kept asking for money. Martien, always so sweet and kind-hearted, kept giving money without realizing that he was getting into trouble. The stress made him ill. “Martien was completely upset and could only cry,” Timon said.
‘Erica Meiland is the sweetest woman you can have’
In the end, Timon decided to inform Erica together with Martien. And that turned out to be the best decision ever! “At such moments, Erica is at her best,” says Timon. “She was so sweet to him! She supported him completely and was very involved. That is a side of Erica that you might not immediately expect, because she comes across as so strong. But when her great love is in trouble, she is the sweetest woman you can have.”
