Youngest grandson Carl Gustaf steals the show with his funny face

From giggle fit to big yawn: the toddler had a great time!

Yesterday, Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf celebrated his 78th birthday. This was accompanied by a traditional appearance on the palace balcony, attended by the rest of the family. However, three-year-old Prince Julian stole the show with his cheerful facial expressions.

Birthday

While we celebrate our monarch’s birthday with a whole bunch of Orange, an annual regional visit, and a day full of celebrations for our King Willem-Alexander, they do things slightly differently in Sweden.

Yesterday they celebrated their own ‘King’s Day’ with a small-scale ceremony. At the Royal Palace in Stockholm, the birthday boy received some bouquets from local youth…

…And the monarch was joined on the palace balcony by Queen Silvia, Crown Princess Victoria and Crown Prince Daniel plus their offspring, Estelle and Oscar, Prince Carl Philip, Princess Sofia and their sons Alexander, Gabriel and Julian. Of course, we had to wave exuberantly to the gathered audience. The family also enjoyed a small birthday parade.

Sweet family moments

Now all that pomp and circumstance is great fun, but these kinds of days especially offer a great moment for royalty watchers to catch a small glimpse of the mutual ties between the family members. This is how the cameras managed to capture this sweet moment between Queen Silvia and her granddaughter Estelle, second in line to the throne. Awww!

Prince Julian

However, international media cannot stop talking about the appearance of three-year-old Julian, the youngest son of Prince Carl Philip and Sofia, and therefore the youngest grandchild of the Swedish king. For example, Voici and The Daily Mail have already published plenty of photos of the funny mouth parade that we saw passing by on the balcony thanks to the young prince. There was a lot of giggling, and the young prince entertained the audience with his lively facial expressions. There was enthusiastic cheering and waving…

…But the very young prince quickly seemed to run out of energy. Fortunately, such a balcony is also wonderful for lazily leaning against, n’est-ce pas?

Judging by that big yawn, the toddler had a wonderful nap after all this sensation!

The prince’s endless cheerful funny faces soon led to him being compared to Prince Louis, who is also particularly popular for his energetic appearance at all kinds of royal events. That will be something if these two young princes ever meet!
