The royal Christmas always followed strict traditions. The contemplative holidays are also one of the most important holidays of the year for the royals. In addition to a number of private celebrations, fans can also watch the royal family take a walk together every year and make their way to the Christmas service. But when Prince William (41) and Prince Harry (39) were still little, the rules were apparently much stricter.
This is what the former chef of the late Queen Elizabeth (✝96), Darren McGrady, reveals. The monarch is said to have had a “Victorian” attitude when it came to family Christmas dinners. “The children always ate in the nursery until they were old enough to behave properly at the dinner table,” the chef tells Hello Magazine. The children’s place was always in the next room with the nannies, not at the set table: “It was never an option for the queen to put a high chair at the table when a baby squeaks and throws food.”
But what was actually served to the royal family on such a high holiday? The Queen is said to have preferred things traditional, too Darren. As a rule, turkey was accompanied by fried potatoes, mashed potatoes, parsnips and Brussels sprouts. “We baked a large Christmas cake for the Queen and the royal family and then a smaller one for the children’s room,” the chef recalls.
