The proud father cuddles his eldest daughter.
All things must come to an end, and so did the first phase of Princess Leonor’s military training. Yesterday, the heir to the Spanish throne completed her training in the army, and was appointed ensign by her father King Felipe and awarded the Grand Cross of Military Merit. And although it was a very solemn occasion, the king could not resist giving his eldest daughter a big hug.
Father-daughter moment
Felipe’s face beamed with pride as he swore in his daughter, Princess Leonor, in front of everyone present. He spoke to his daughter with a big smile and presented her with the Grand Cross of Military Merit with white insignia. A special moment between father and daughter, there on the grounds of the military base in Zaragoza. He grabbed his heir to the throne firmly by the shoulders to make it clear how proud he is of her achievements. Of course, military training is no small feat. He looked at his daughter with pride as she marched away after the official moment. Yes Felipe, little girls grow up!

Unprecedented pride
After the swearing-in ceremony, Leonor, like her father, joined her mother Queen Letizia and her sister Princess Sofia. There too, there was a lot of hugging; finally they could hold their beloved Leonor in their arms again. For now, the foursome is complete again and together the family enjoyed the rest of the ceremony, where the new officers of the army and the Guardia Civil were appointed. The Spanish court shares beautiful photos of the intimate, yet public moment between father and daughter. And the looks on those images do not lie: what pride!

Military education
Princess Leonor’s military training will continue for another two years. She has now completed the first phase in the army, but she still has a long way to go. In the autumn she will start her training in the navy, and the following year she will start her training in the air force. Big plans for the princess!
