If you have brought a large bouquet of colorful flowers into your home, you naturally want to enjoy them for as long as possible. To prevent them from drooping after a few days, you must place them in the right place in the house. And the location is a common mistake that has a major impact on the lifespan of your bloomers.
Kitchen table or countertop
Have you received or brought into your home a beautiful bouquet of flowers? Then of course you hope that they will remain beautiful for a few days. In addition to cutting the stems at an angle, there is another step you need to take to take good care of your bouquet: placing it in the right place. And that is preferably not near a fruit bowl. So pay attention when you want to put flowers in the kitchen or on the kitchen table.
Ethylene
Fruit gives off an odorless and colorless gas called ethylene (or ethene). Ethylene accelerates the ripening process of fruit. This gas is not poisonous to humans and animals, but it is poisonous to flowers. Placing your bunch of flowers near your fruit supply is therefore not a good idea. Apples and pears in particular can wilt your bouquet very quickly due to their release of ethylene.
Direct sunlight
Another factor to take into account when placing a vase of flowers is direct sunlight. Being in full sunlight is not good for the lifespan of the bouquet of flowers. So find a nice spot in your home where your bouquet – without direct sunlight and without fruit – can steal the show for days.
