Nance Coolen was once a popular presenter on Dutch television. She has appeared in a number of programs, but has now taken a completely different path for some time now. For example, she works part-time in a nursing home, she says in conversation with VROUW Glossy.
Part time job
“I started training to be a nail technician, but that wasn’t it,” Nance confesses. “I then started giving singing lessons and took up singing again myself. I also currently work part-time as a hostess in a nursing home. Hardly anyone knows me there. “You could be a daughter of Nance,” a 100-year-old resident said to me recently. That made me laugh. ‘I’m Nance’, I said then.”
Departure from SBS
Although Nance became known for her place in the group Twenty 4 Seven, she once filled in for TMF years ago. And that turned out to be a great success. After her appearance on the music channel, she did varied work. She was seen on the public broadcaster, but also on SBS 6 and RTL.
Yet her departure from SBS has had a major impact on her. “At SBS, after the takeover of John de Mol, the halls were buzzing and heads were rolling. That caused unrest. There was a list of TV presenters who had to leave the field and I was not on it, so I thought I was safe.” Something she probably shouldn’t have done right away. She requested an interview herself, but was still told to pack her things.
No reason
Yet Nance still doesn’t fully understand why she had to leave. “I was never given a real reason. I knew I was interchangeable, but I still think you can’t treat people like that. As a famous Dutch person you are not allowed to complain, while it is of course not normal to be told in such a way that you no longer have a job. It wasn’t fancy. After SBS I worked at RTL and there my program Pure Happiness was suddenly taken over by Ruben Nicolai. It had to have more humor.”
