20 years later: this is what the girls from Djumbo do now

They are currently concerned with completely different matters.

It is almost inevitable that you have heard of the girl group Djumbo. The girl band, consisting of three girls, was founded as a promotional stunt by supermarket chain Jumbo, but gained enormous popularity in the Benelux. Djumbo has stopped for a long time now, but we found out what they are currently doing.

Djumbo

Djumbo – the girl group that sings songs in half English, half Dutch – was initially a promotional stunt by supermarket chain Jumbo. The first formation of the group consisted of Lotte Prijs, Lindsy Schuman and Svenja van Beek. It was the first – and also the last – that a Dutch supermarket chain used a pop group as a marketing instrument. According to communications and formula policy director Colette Cloosterman-van Eerd, this was the ultimate way to introduce customers to the Jumbo supermarkets in a different, light-hearted way.

Good luck

Although the creation of the Dutch girl group was initially aimed at introducing customers to Jumbo supermarkets, it soon became apparent that Lindsy, Lotte and Svenja were more successful than expected. With songs like Eyahe and Hide and Seek they even managed to reach the top 10 of the Dutch charts. Is a light coming on for you again?

Songs

Which other songs could the girls write to their name? At the beginning of 2005, the group released its debut album Jump, which was released by record label CMM. In addition to the aforementioned hit singles, this album also contained The Djumbo Jump and the less popular Made to Love You. But don’t worry, almost two years later Djumbo released another hit called: Boya Boya Bay.

This summer single was even heard in the cinema, as it was used as the title song of the cinema film Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties. In November 2006, the girl group released the single Undercover, which was used as the title song of Djumbo’s first theater tour, The Djumbo Undercover Tour. And so many other songs and albums followed.

New member

In 2010, despite the great success of Djumbo, Svenja van Beek decided to stop. She thought it was time for new challenges and she also wanted to finish her studies. Samantha Klumper took her place in 2011. Samantha was also no stranger to the world of entertainment, she previously participated in the third season of Popstars and was one of the three singers of the girl band Centerfold.

As a new member, Samantha brought a breath of fresh air to the girl group. In early 2011, they traveled to Turkey to record a new video clip for the single SOS. The single was released a few months later, and special USB bracelets in various colors were released containing the single and the video clip. You understand that this bracelet proved to be a true collector’s item among Djumbo’s thousands of teenage fans. Furthermore, the Djumbo girls appeared in the children’s series Sinterklaas and the Danger of the Candy Factory in 2012.

Frisz

After the summer of 2013 it became increasingly quiet around Djumbo. The group continued to perform, but no new singles were released. It then emerged that Lotte had chosen to leave the girl group. She wanted to focus more on her DJ career. The remaining pair then started looking for a replacement for Lotte. Danique van Roosmalen became the addition the girls were looking for and with her arrival the name of the group was also changed to: Frisz.

After releasing one single as Frisz, it became clear that the new formula would not last long. In 2018, the girls decided to quietly put an end to it. However, Frisz’s Instagram page still exists. We found, among other things, this nice snapshot of the trio.

The girls from Djumbo are currently doing completely different things:

Svenja van Beek

While she was part of the successful Djumbo, Svenja van Beek was already working as a model. She continued to do this for a while after her departure and now has her own company. Studio Musmuki focuses on furnishing homes. “So excited to bundle all the inspiration from recent years and help even more people create their own dream place,” Svenja writes under the post on Instagram announcing her new company.

Lindsy Schuman

Lindsy, who was the only Djumbo member there from start to finish, currently has her own beauty salon in Tilburg. At Beau Jolie you can enjoy a wide range of beauty treatments and massages. You can also come by for extensions or a haircut.

Lotte Price

Lotte currently works as a DJ and turns many parties upside down under the name DJ Miss Faith. She is also mother of son Jax and daughter June.

Danique van Roosmalen

Danique van Roosmalen has also not been idle after her Djumbo career. She is now the proud owner of Danique Dance & Entertainment, she works at Het Pieck where she coordinates the art offering for schools and after-school care centers and she also does some modeling and acting work in between. Busy little bee Danique!

Samantha Klumper

Samantha Klumper currently works for companies in various areas on a freelance basis. “For interim assignments or long-term assignments for 8 to 16 hours per week, I am available as a Personal Assistant, Virtual Assistant, Management Assistant, Office Manager, Executive Assistant or Account Manager,” reads the bio on her LinkedIn page.

In short: those girls from Djumbo have really landed on their feet. Secretly, of course, we continue to hope for a reunion tour. For our offspring, of course.
