A bittersweet ending, if it were up to the actress.
Our favorite romcom Pretty Woman naturally ends with a happy ending, but how would the main characters have actually fared after the end of the film? Julia Roberts herself makes a bittersweet prediction.
Storyline
Pretty Woman, who doesn’t know her? The classic dates back to 1992 and has since been extremely popular with both young and old. It doesn’t matter how many times we’ve seen it – it’s still fun. In the film we follow prostitute Vivian (played by the one and only Julia Roberts), who is hired as an escort by businessman Edward (Richard Gere). You don’t even have to see it to know how it ends: of course the two fall madly in love with each other and end up as a madly in love couple.
Heart attack and CEO
So the film clearly has a happy ending, but how would the characters actually fare? “I think Edward died peacefully in his sleep of a heart attack,” Julia Roberts said. And Vivian? “She now runs Edward’s company,” she says.
Original story
Julia recently revealed that she initially did not like playing the role of Vivian. The original story had a much darker touch. “In the original story, Vivian was a drug addict, and the movie didn’t end as a love story. “On top of that, Edward left her on a side street, threw money at her and drove off,” the actress said on The Graham Norton Show. When Disney came up with a new story, Julia was enthusiastic about the film. “They made it a funnier storyline.”
