‘Controversy? What controversy?’
You could hardly have missed it yesterday: after months of radio silence, the British court shared a new photo of the Wales family, which was promptly banned again after a load of unfortunate photo editing errors. And there was no real burying of one’s head in the sand, as the Windsors had to make an appearance en masse for a service in honor of Commonwealth Day.
Commonwealth Day
It is an annual tradition for the Windsors to turn up en masse for a service at Westminster Abbey to mark Commonwealth Day. On this day, Commonwealth countries reflect on the bond they share – from Africa to America and from the Caribbean to Asia.
The day is also the starting signal for a week full of activities focused on local cultures and mutual ties. As usual, even the royal family is also present at the service in the Abbey. Or well… that is of course a bit different this year.
Depleted family
Last year, of course, Charles and Camilla sat in the front row with William and Kate – all dressed together in shades of blue.
This year, however, Charles and Kate are both unavailable for medical reasons, so the rest of the family will have to take over temporarily. This time, the royals were led by Queen Camilla, who showed up in radiant sea blue. We also saw her outfit at the end of last year when she walked to an end-of-year service in Sandringham.
She was accompanied in the abbey by Prince William, who, with all the fuss surrounding his wife’s Photoshop skills, doesn’t seem to be able to get past his best farmer-with-a-toothache smile.
Of course Anne, Princess Royal was also present. In addition, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, among others, showed their royal noses.

Anne again showed herself to be a special green princess with a Shibumi coat that she has worn before, with a scarf in a matching colorful print. Duchess Sophie, in turn, opted for a classic beige shade with a robe manteau from Suzannah, and Birgitte, the Duchess of Gloucester, opted for a warm coat in gray and black.
Major absentee
It was a bit sad for Charles that he had to miss the event this time. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the Commonwealth.

Fortunately, thanks to the wonders of modern technology, the monarch was able to be somewhat involved. He had recorded a video message, which was shown during the service.
For example, Charles stated: “The Commonwealth is like the wiring of a house, and the people, our energy, and our ideas are the current that runs through these wires.” It is clear that the monarch has not lost his poetic side!
