At Glamial, we love a good drink every now and then. And now, a delicious new addition to your home bar has arrived in the Netherlands: Renais Gin! This gin label is as tasty as it is innovative, and can also count on the support of none other than actress Emma Watson. Together with brother Alex, they founded this unique brand, and you can clearly taste the care and dedication of the family in this delicious gin. We’ll tell you all about it!
Renais Gin
We are of course familiar with the exquisite wines that come from France. But a gin inspired by one of the most famous French wine regions? We have never seen that before. Until now! Renais Gin stands out not only because of its beautiful golden appearance, but especially because of their unique way of distilling. With leftover grape skins and sediment as the main ingredients, both from the Domaine Watson vineyard, Emma and her brother Alex have managed to create an exceptional gin.
Domaine Watson has been making wine for decades at seven small family vineyards. The winery boasts a full-bodied red Pinot Noir with flavours of blackberry, licorice and leather, and a serious Chablis. At the base of Renais, which means ‘reborn’ in French, are the rescued white grape skins of their own Chablis wine. These skins are then combined with grand-cru wine grapes and botanical ingredients such as lime flower, acacia honey and sea salt. This results in a mineral flavour with hints of citrus. And of course all of this with a touch of magic!
Family love
Renais is the brand of actress Emma Watson and her brother Alex. Both were born in Paris, but they spent a large part of their childhood at the vineyard founded by Watson’s father, Domaine Watson. While Emma pursued an acting career – we know her from Harry Potter, Beauty and the Beast, and Little Women – Alex continued to work for the estate, but also outside of it in the drinks industry. The Watson family has a deep-rooted connection with Burgundy wines and the beautiful landscape that surrounds them. Chris Watson planted his vineyards in Chablis more than three decades ago and has been producing award-winning wines ever since.
Alex and Emma are of course extremely proud of creating Renais Gin, in which the terroir of Domaine Watson is reborn in a unique spirit, using recycled grape skins from the winemaking process. Under Alex’s leadership, Renais Gin continues the family tradition of showcasing the very best of the region’s terroir. The family’s dedication, knowledge, passion and especially the love for the wine region make this ‘celebirty’ gin a worldly spirit with a connection to the top wines from Chablis.
Now in the Netherlands
Curious about Renais Gin? We get it. Good news, because from now on the Gin of Emma Watson is also available in the Netherlands. Last week was the festive launch where Jack Sotti, Global Brand Ambassador Renais Gin (and big name in the cocktail world), came over to Amsterdam. He provided a real Renais Martini Masterclass for all the guests. Afterwards there was a 3-course dinner with matching Renais cocktails. Sounds good!
