Sarah Ferguson posts tribute on Diana’s birthday

“I know you’re always watching over us.”

On social media, Sarah Furguson reflected on the loss of her dear friend, Princess Diana. Yesterday, July 1, the Princess of Wales would have turned 63. With a sweet tribute, the Duchess of York looked back on their friendship.

Former sisters-in-law

Sarah, Duchess of York, knew Diana long before she married Prince Andrew, Duke of York and second son of Queen Elizabeth II.

The two friends had many similarities: they married the brothers shortly after each other, and both marriages had their ups and downs. Sarah and Andrew’s marriage lasted ten years, until they ended their relationship in 1996.

Princess Diana’s marriage to then Prince Charles also ended in 1996. Eventually, the princess died at the age of 36 in a car accident in Paris. Diana left behind sons William and Harry at the ages of fifteen and twelve. The grief over this tragic event was and still is of course great. On July 1, 2024, she would have been 63 years old.

Congratulation

On Instagram, Sarah therefore shares a moving post about her deceased friend and former sister-in-law, Diana. It concerns a photo of the two in their shining young years. Sarah writes under the post: “Happy birthday to my dear friend Diana. You were a pillar of light and love. And what a legacy you have left behind. I will always remember our laughter and the kind, gentle spirit I found in you. I know for sure that you are always watching over us. Rest in peace my friend.”

People’s princess

Despite – or perhaps because of – all the rumours surrounding the English royals, Sarah and Diana have always found great comfort in each other. Sarah once said about the late Lady Di that she would be proud of her two sons, their beautiful wives and her five grandchildren, writes The Daily Mail.

Both Diana and Sarah were both young mothers, and always put their children first. Diana naturally found it very important that her sons had a ‘normal’ upbringing, even though this was completely different from what the English royal family was used to. The princess was also a true iconic personality for this reason, who was also known for her support of various charities.

Princess Diana was a real ‘People’s Princess’, because she was always very loved by many people. Sarah also gets a lot of support under this sweet ode to her good friend. It is clear that Diana still lives on in the hearts of the people.
