The foursome went on a special mission.
From mild summer weather to freezing cold: the Danish royal couple had to make the necessary adjustments for their visit to Greenland. King Frederik and Queen Mary started their visit to the island, which is part of the Danish kingdom, last weekend and have a full agenda.
Boat trip
For this special visit, the royal couple left their personal driver at home and boarded the boat. Not just any one, but the royal ship Dannebrog. With this they set sail for the north of Greenland, and to our great surprise were accompanied by their two youngest children, the twins Vincent and Josephine.
Greenland is part of the Danish kingdom, but has its own parliament and government. That the island is close to Frederik and Mary’s hearts is evident from the Greenlandic baptismal names they gave to the youngest twins. A good reason to visit the island with the kids.

Busy schedule
The royals cleared their schedules for a whole week to visit Greenland. On the first day, they started with a visit to Pituffik Space Base, the air base of the United States Air Force. After arriving, the group continued their journey to Qaanaaq, where they were warmly welcomed with lots of music, dancing and coffee. In the photos on the official Instagram account of the Danish royal family, we see how the couple is warmly welcomed and shakes hands with the enthusiastic residents.

Special mission
The second day was dedicated to a special mission. Together with their children they visited Qeqertarsuaq, where the Arctic Station is located. From this location extensive research is conducted into the behavior of whales and other animals in the surrounding seas. During this visit, a new sound station was introduced, which will provide insight into the presence of marine mammals in these waters using a microphone. In the photos that the royal family shares, we see beautiful ice caps and unspoiled nature. The children also pose sweetly at the harbor and King Frederik is at the helm of a ship. Already a versatile visit, and they are not even half way yet!
