If The Crown is to be believed, Dodi Fayed lost his heart to a lady long before he met Princess Diana. Model Kelly Fisher is even said to be engaged to the Harrods heir. But what exactly happened to her?
Kelly Fischer
Kelly Fisher was born in 1962. She grew up in Louisville, but moved to Canada at the age of sixteen. Here she started working as a model and eventually worked for major fashion houses. The first meeting between Kelly and Dodi was in 1996, in – you guessed it – Paris.
Soon the two felt the well-known ‘spark’ and got engaged. The diamond engagement ring was therefore not to be missed. Until Dodi met Princess Diana – during his engagement to Kelly. The two were first spotted together on a yacht where the infamous photos eventually leaked.
Not much later, Dodi broke off the engagement to Kelly, which he did over the phone, according to the model. Ouch!
Court case
When the photos went public, Kelly filed a lawsuit against her ex-fiancé. She said that the wedding was scheduled for August 9, and that they had a contractual agreement. Her lawyer also stated during a press conference: “Mr. Fayed must take responsibility for the woman he ‘left at the altar’, as it were, and whom he treated with total disrespect. He broke her heart in a heartless way, without any respect for her.”
Lawsuit withdrawn
But then disaster struck: Diana and Dodi died after a tragic accident in Paris.
Immediately afterwards, Kelly withdrew the lawsuit. Her attorney said at the time: “Out of respect for the tragedy and immense loss the Fayed family has suffered, she has authorized me, as her attorney, to withdraw her lawsuit against Mr. Fayed. Although she has the legal right to pursue the case against his estate, she has chosen not to exercise that right voluntarily.”
How is she doing now?
Kelly is now happily married to her husband Mikhail Movshina. She met him during a safari in South Africa. The two also have a daughter, with whom they live in South Carolina.
Yet there is always other gossip that has been brought into the world. For example, butler Paul Burrell later revealed that the love between Diana and Dodi was only a ‘holiday love’. Diana simply wanted to get away from it all for a while and Dodi was able to offer her that relaxation. How did the fork really get stuck? We’ll never find out again.
