Save money? This way you save money unnoticed

Saving money is not always easy, but with these tips you don’t even have to pay attention to it. We tell you how to save money unnoticed.

1. Pin savings

Some banks offer debit card savings: a smart system that ensures that you send a percentage to your savings account with every transaction. At one bank you can pay the percentage yourself, while at the other bank the amount is rounded up and this amount is saved. A useful tactic if you cannot save yourself!

2. Money in a separate savings account

If you use your bank’s app, you know that your checking account and savings account are just as easy to access. This can be useful, but it is also ‘dangerous’ if you do not save easily. You can empty your entire savings account with one push of a button, while you are not saving it for nothing. In this case, it might be better to opt for a savings account that you cannot access so quickly.

3. Savings goals

Did you know that you can set a monthly savings goal for a savings account? This savings goal ensures that a fixed amount is transferred from the checking account to the savings account every month. Some banks also have handy pots where you can save for different goals.

4. Residual savings

If you have done a good analysis and you know what you need per month to make ends meet and what you want to spend on nice extras, choose residual savings as the most convenient option. A number of banks offer this. You set a target amount that you want to have at least in the checking account every month and anything above that is automatically transferred to the savings account. You don’t have to do anything!

5. Save for seven days

Do you also easily spend money on small, unnecessary things such as coffee to go or a sandwich or wrap? You don’t have to stop, but spend a small amount every day on your savings goals. On an annual basis, this happens faster than you think. For example, use the handy ‘seven-day schedule’: you can save almost 1,500 euros per year. This scheme works as follows: every Monday you deposit one euro, on Tuesday two euros, three euros on Wednesday and so on, until you have deposited seven euros on Sunday. Repeat this weekly: start every Monday with one euro, and end every week on Sunday with seven euros. If you keep this up for a year, you will have saved 1465 euros without any effort!
