When I (Josine) started blogging in 2003, I had no idea what the world of blogging would look like. I cut and pasted some pictures from the internet, wrote two sentences and that was it. What also grew was my interest in palaces, lifestyle, royal PR, history, awards and jewellery. Because I enjoyed looking at someone other than Máxima, I also broadened my field of vision in terms of royals.
Nowadays, Fashion Queen Maxima is a website that covers more than just Maxima’s fashion. It is my digital living room, where I like to chat about royal affairs with my royal friends.
Purchasing photos, maintaining the website, the server: it all costs a lot of money. The costs are covered by advertisements above, next to and between the text. If the advertisements disappeared, ModekoninginMáxima.nl would also disappear. I sometimes get asked by email if I would like to think about a subscription model. For a few euros a month you could read the articles on MKM. My answer is always very clear: no, a subscription model is not planned. Why not? Because MKM should be and remain a hobby for me – and for the guest bloggers. When I feel like blogging, I blog. If I don’t feel like it/have the time/energy, I won’t blog. The same policy applies in terms of topics: if I feel like blogging about a certain topic, I will blog about it. Don’t feel like it? Then I’ll skip it.
So if you’re wondering why a certain topic is covered on this website, the answer is very simple: because one of the MKM bloggers apparently felt like it. So yes, on ModekoninginMáxima you sometimes read about palaces, etiquette or history. Just like a butcher may also sell vanilla custard and pea soup. Clicks show that the trips are generally highly appreciated. For example, the most read blog of 2023 was about Huis ten Bosch Palace.
Clicks can be an encouragement to blog again about a certain topic. If you don’t like a certain topic, don’t click on the blog. On the other hand, clicks are not one hundred percent leading either. For example, blogs about jewelry take up a lot of time, but are clicked on less than fashion. The target group is smaller, but the involvement of jewelry lovers is high. We receive a lot of emails about it and the blogs are still clicked on well after the publication date.
