An important person will be missing from this historic day. In a few days, the lives of Princess Mary (51) and her husband Crown Prince Frederik (55) will change: the two will be crowned King and Queen of Denmark. Many royal guests, friends and family members will attend the ceremony. But the mother of four will have to do without one special person: Mary’s father cannot come to the coronation.
According to Danish newspaper Se og Hør, the palace has confirmed that John Dalgleish Donaldson will not be on hand to watch his daughter be made queen on Sunday. The 82-year-old is said to be “unable to do so” for health reasons [sein]”To undertake the long journey to Denmark for the proclamation”. Mary will receive family support from her eldest sister Jane Alison Stephens, who will be present at the coronation.
Mary’s father isn’t the only family member who won’t be there. Count Nikolai (24) and his brother Count Felix (21), the nephews of Frederik, are not expected when the throne changes. The tabloid Ekstra Bladet reported that the sons of Prince Joachim (54) did not receive an invitation.
