The diet Kate Middleton swears by

But how healthy is it? A nutrition expert will update us.

Kate Middleton always looks the part. Some people wonder how she did that, after giving birth to three children. The answer is: the Louise Parker Method. The diet that helped Kate regain her old weight. But how healthy is it? A nutrition expert explains.

Louise Parker Method

The Louise Parker Method was invented by, you guessed it, a certain Louise Parker. She consciously calls her lifestyle not a diet, but a method. “I’m on a mission to stop dieting, because it’s difficult and often it doesn’t work.” Parker instead advocates a different way of eating and exercising. “Accept that you have to change your lifestyle, but do it in a way that really suits you, with food you like and exercise you enjoy.” So it suddenly sounds very easy to persevere, right? These are the lifestyle rules you should follow according to the Louise Parker Method:

  • Exercise every day. Try to take at least 10,000 steps and do a 15-minute (fitness) workout at home. If this doesn’t work for a day, try to exercise as much as possible.
  • Eat three meals and two snacks a day and pay attention to the different food groups. For main meals, always choose a portion of proteins (eggs, meat, tofu, yogurt, nuts, beans, etc.), carbohydrates with a low glycemic index (vegetables, oats, whole wheat bread, etc.) and healthy fats (nuts, seeds, fish, avocado, etc.). olive oil…).

  • Start the day ‘lemonizing’. Mix the juice of half a lemon with 150 ml of cold water and 150 ml of boiling water and drink this first thing in the morning. Continue drinking water for the rest of the day and limit tea and coffee to three cups per day.
  • Consume as little as possible (preferably no) alcohol, sugar, refined carbohydrates (white bread, white pasta, etc.) and processed products.
  • Sleep seven hours a night and sleep in when you can (look, we can do something with that!). Also give your brain 20 minutes of rest during the day by mindlessly walking, bathing, gardening, cycling, sitting on the bus, meditating or relaxing in some other way.
  • Turn off your smartphone at 9:00 PM. “Everything can wait until tomorrow,” Parker said.

  • Adopt a success mindset. Huh? This means that you try to think as positively as possible. Visualize the goal you want to work towards.
  • Follow the plan 100% in the first six weeks. “The better you follow it, the faster it becomes a habit. But if things don’t go perfectly, don’t think you’ve failed or should quit altogether. Just pick up the plan again at the next meal.”
  • After the first six weeks, you follow the plan 80% of the time. Treat yourself to that piece of cake or glass of red wine every now and then. After all, you are not on a diet, you ‘just’ follow a healthy, flexible, balanced lifestyle.

Admittedly, it doesn’t sound easy (no wine for six weeks and walking for hours!), but we have seen more annoying diets. Kate Middleton is also not the only one who sees results with the Louise Parker Method. Celebrities, CEOs and athletes are also said to swear by the method.

Nutritionist

“It is a very balanced approach, and not just hype,” says nutritionist Tanya Borowski in Woman & Home. “The nutritional principles are focused on choosing the right forms of macro and micronutrients and not on counting calories.” The fact that healthy fats are encouraged and you can safely eat a piece of (whole wheat) bread also makes it easier for many people to adhere to these guidelines. “There is also a lot of focus on exercise and getting enough sleep – both of which are necessary for optimal metabolism.”

The downside?

According to Borowski, there is a downside to the diet, and it is not skipping that glass of wine. “The method cannot be properly adapted to an individual’s life stage and personal circumstances. “For example, women who experience symptoms of perimenopause or are going through menopause become more insulin resistant due to changing estrogen levels. A tailor-made plan would then be required.”
