Glitter, glamour, and couture on the red carpet in Cannes

The iconic film festival had its grand opening yesterday!

The biggest film festival of the year got off to a grand start yesterday! On the French coast, just an hour’s drive from Monaco, it is time again for the Festival de Cannes. Naturally, the opening of the festival was, as usual, accompanied by a lot of glamour. We highlight some of our favorite looks.

Cannes Film Festival

Every year the prestigious international film festival takes place on the south coast of France. The festival always attracts a lot of media attention, and the biggest movie stars appear on the red carpet. The leading directors and actors are present during this major event.

Major prizes are awarded, culminating in the Palme d’Or, which is awarded to the best film. And that is quite an honor at the Cannes festival. The tone is being set for the future and this is the moment when emerging talents such as directors and actors come to the fore. Film products are given the opportunity to promote and sell their films.

Red carpet looks

From Jane Fonda and Meryl Streep to Heidi Klum and Omar Sy, every star who counts in the film world made an entrance. The red carpet looks are iconic fashion moments that we enjoy immensely. Embracing the extravagance that comes with the south coast of France, the stars shine towards us. During the opening of the festival we saw a striking number of stars in red, which is of course also one of the fashion colors of the moment.

Moreover, there was also a bit of Dutch glamor to be seen on the red carpet: model Romee Strijd shone in a fabulous gown by designer Eman Alajlan and Messika jewelry.

Honorary Palme d’Or

The actress who caught the spotlight yesterday is Meryl Streep. The British actress is this year’s guest of honor at the festival, and received the honorary Palme d’Or, which honors her for her great influence and contribution to the film industry.

The actress couldn’t keep it dry when she received the beautiful lifetime achievement award. “Winning an award at Cannes, where so many great makers come together, is one of the highest achievements you can achieve in cinema. The fact that I can stand in the shadow of my predecessors makes me humble and excited at the same time. The only reason I’m standing here tonight is because I’ve worked with very gifted artists. I’m so grateful that you didn’t get tired of my face,” said Meryl Streep.
