This morning, Princess Laurentien read from the picture book ‘Help!’ during the National Reading Breakfast in Diemen. A surprise!’
Princess Laurentien read at the Diemen Childcare Foundation, Hakim location. The Reading Breakfast is traditionally the kick-off of the National Reading Days campaign. The book ‘Help! A surprise!’, has been chosen as Picture Book of the Year by a committee of librarians, booksellers and teachers. The book was written by Miriam Bos and she also illustrated it. The picture book is about August and Suus. August doesn’t like surprises. Suus loves to run and do wild things, while August prefers to read. The book is a recognizable story for all children who find surprises exciting.
The campaign encourages reading to children who cannot yet read themselves and emphasizes the benefits of reading, including the positive effect on vocabulary, spelling and text comprehension. The National Reading Days will last until February 3, 2024.
