Incident
It all started with an incident that forced the S10 team to file an official complaint. According to the singer, it revolved around the lack of respect for personal boundaries by some backstage employees at the Eurovision Song Contest. AVROTROS, the organization behind the Dutch entries, later confirmed that a report had indeed been made.
Unprofessional
While S10 was preparing her performance, she noticed that things were very different in Turin at the time than what she was used to in the Netherlands. “Many people handled their tasks very unprofessionally,” S10 explains. “Here in the Netherlands we are used to a streamlined approach. But there, from the cameraman to the person who puts your in-ears, it was different. That was really intense.”
Flashlight
To protect her space, someone was even assigned to walk with her with a flashlight. “On the night of the Eurovision Song Contest final we had to make an official complaint because it was just really not normal,” she reveals. “Then someone walked with me with a flashlight to shine it in everyone’s eyes.” Fortunately, the situation was resolved on the spot, according to an AVROTROS spokesperson.
Hard school
Yet S10 looks back on the entire adventure with a positive outlook. “It was a tough learning experience,” she said, “but I learned so much from it. And it only made me stronger. I’m ready to reenter the world and share my music with everyone.”
Disqualification
Of course, this incident is not an isolated incident. Because AVROTROS has again made an official report this year of an unpleasant atmosphere behind the scenes. This of course had to do with Joost Klein and the camerawoman who did not want to stop filming when she was asked to. This incident even led to disqualification and a lawsuit. Joost has already completed his first appearance in the Netherlands, but he is still anxiously awaiting what the Public Prosecution Service in Sweden will decide on his case. His case is expected to occur in early June.
