Do you or your partner snore? These are the best tips against snoring

Many people snore. About twenty out of every hundred men snore and about ten out of every hundred women snore. This is often not a problem for the person themselves. It is possible that you wake yourself up from your own snoring. While it may not be a problem for you, it probably isn’t for your partner. For light sleepers, falling asleep next to a snorer is often a nightmare.

Products against snoring

There are products that claim to reduce or completely stop snoring. Nasal strips are an example of this. Although it is nice if you just stick a strip on your nose to stop snoring, this is not the case. According to ENT doctors, there is no evidence that these work. Snoring mainly comes from your throat and not a stuffy nose. What about a special mouth tape, does that work? Unfortunately, there is no evidence of this either. Are you still curious? Then you try it out, but it does have a few unpleasant side effects. It might irritate your lips or the skin around them, hurt to remove, and might disrupt your sleep because you have trouble breathing through your nose.

Change your lifestyle

What does help? You may not like the answer to this, but: change your lifestyle. Some of the reasons you may snore are: obesity, alcohol and smoking. If you want to stop snoring, you have to lose weight, drink less or no alcohol and stop smoking.

Sleep on your side

Do you not recognize yourself in these habits? Maybe you sleep on your back and this is the reason you snore. Try sleeping on your side or even your stomach instead of sleeping on your back. If you find this very difficult, there is a trick for this. Sew a tennis ball (or other small ball) into your sleep shirt. This way you don’t lie on your back easily and you naturally lie on your side.

Still no solution for you?

Is there no solution for you here? Then a visit to the doctor is a good idea. For your partner, snoring will last a little longer, so investing in a pair of good earplugs also seems like a good idea to us.
