Bad news, MAFS fans! The lovely couple Cathalijne and Laura, who participated in Married at First Sight in 2023, have decided to divorce. Although the spark did not immediately fly during their participation, they were the only couple from that year who was still together. Unfortunately, that is now over, as Cathalijne announced via Instagram after a flood of rumors.
An unexpected love story in Married at First Sight
Cathalijne and Laura had a quite unique story. Things didn’t really click during their wedding day, but later the two fell in love with each other. Cute! After the recording of Married at First Sight they tried it together for a while, but unfortunately that is now a thing of the past.

In an Instagram Story, Cathalijne wrote: “I’ve been getting a lot of questions about this lately, so I want to confirm that Laura and I have been separated for a while. We had a wonderful Married at First Sight adventure, which I look back on fondly. We have shared so many beautiful moments, but sometimes life doesn’t turn out the way you hope. We continue to respect and appreciate each other.” In the message she does not reveal anything about the reason for their breakup.
Focus on the future
Now both ladies focus on their own future. Laura wants to focus more on her work as a photographer, while Cathalijne will focus on her marketing career.
Unexpected match
In conversation with Flair, Laura said after the MAFS shooting days that she actually expected to be matched with a tough woman. One that would wait for her at the altar in a tailored suit. And then Cathalijne stood there, in a traditional white wedding dress… Fortunately, the tension quickly disappeared when she saw that Cathalijne had a nose piercing! An unexpected detail that made the two click. “We might have swiped each other away on a dating app, but now we knew that we had been matched for a reason,” Laura said at the time.
Secret relationship after the shooting
It wasn’t until the Married at First Sight cameras stopped rolling that the butterflies started to grow. They enjoyed their secret relationship, far away from prying eyes. “We lived in our own bubble for weeks, without outside pressure,” Cathalijne said. As nice as it sounds, unfortunately the fairy tale has now come to an end. Sad!
