The princess was clearly having a good time!
Our own Joost Klein may not have been there (much to the disappointment of the editors), but the Swedish royal family was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest. None other than Crown Princess Victoria spoke encouragingly to the participants and made an appearance in the stands.
Eurovision royalty
Much has already been said and written about the normally festive song festival that took place this weekend. However, with unprecedented protests, a disqualification and participants who expressed anger about the organization afterwards, this was certainly not an edition to write home about.
Yet that did not spoil the fun for the Swedish Crown Princess Victoria. She warmly welcomed the participants to Sweden with a video message, which was pre-recorded in the palace.
“Good evening, it is my great honor to welcome you all to Sweden. I hope you will enjoy the show, and I wish all the participants the best of luck,” Her Highness said.

In the stands
Keen viewers also spotted that the princess was also shown in the stands during the opening ceremony. The princess was clearly having a good time here!
For the occasion, Vic had exchanged her white power suit for a chic black outfit with cape sleeves, which came from – how could it be otherwise – H&M.
In Kate’s footsteps
Last year, Princess Kate also showed up during the opening ceremony of the grand final. To everyone’s surprise, she then played a nice piece of piano from the Crimson Drawing Room of Windsor Castle. However, the Princess of Wales herself was not spotted in the stands.
Who knows: Vic will set a new trend with this? We really like it: our royal family in the audience, a swinging Máxima with daughters, and Willem-Alexander with a Europapa tie. Now we just have to make sure that the Netherlands wins the festival again – or that we participate again at all…
