Prince Harry follows in grandmother’s footsteps during festive outing

The prince shows his best moves!

Surprise! Last night, none other than the Duke and Duchess of Sussex showed up in Vancouver, Canada for an ice hockey match. Of course their visit had a very good reason, but apart from that it also looked like the two just had a good old-fashioned time.

Historical event

If there’s one thing people in Canada love, it’s ice hockey. Last night the Rogers Arena was packed for a match between the Vancouver Canucks and the San Jose Sharks. Among them were also two very royal guests: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were also present!

Moreover, Harry had a special task during this evening. He was not only allowed to watch from the audience, but also ventured onto the ice himself. Here it was up to the Duke of Sussex to drop the ceremonial first puck of the evening on the ice.

Royalty connoisseurs immediately saw a parallel with the late Queen Elizabeth. More than 21 years ago she was assigned the same role. Then her highness made her appearance alongside local legend and hockey great Wayne Gretzky – appropriately dressed in the red hues of the Canadian flag.

Nice reason

By the way, it is of course not easy for a royal to be on your ice floor. The Sussexes’ presence was entirely dedicated to a cause they care deeply about.

For example, a special edition of the Invictus Games will take place in the Canadian cities of Vancouver and Whistler in early 2025. During this edition of the sporting event for veterans, attention will be paid to adapted versions of winter sports for the first time! And where better to celebrate than on the ice in Canada, nun?

The Canadian team itself writes in the special snapshot: “Prince Harry is the founder and patron of the Invictus Games Fund. And in 2025, the Invictus Games will come to Vancouver and Whistler, where we will welcome military veterans, service members, and their families from around the world for a celebration of their service and the unparalleled power of sport to aid their recovery.”

Night out

It’s very nice, of course, that the Sussexes are so committed to charity. But it also seems that the two simply had a great evening. For example, we see Harry celebrating a goal with some exuberant dance moves, and Markle also puts her wine aside to cheer on the athletes.

“Two points and two new Canucks fans tonight!”, the cheerful video reads. Who knows: might H&M have immediately bought themselves a pair of hockey skates when they got home? We can see it all over again!
