She reflects on an eventful year. Sarah Ferguson (64) has had a turbulent 365 days. As the ex-wife of Prince Andrew (63), the Brit was only seen on special occasions for the British royal family. The surprise came at Christmas: after almost 20 years, she was allowed to attend the service in Sandringham with the other royals. But that doesn’t seem to have been her biggest highlight: Sarah is proud that she has beaten breast cancer.
The 64-year-old shared thoughtful lines on her Instagram profile. Sarah shared her thoughts with her fans and spoke of “ups and downs” in 2023: “I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I beat breast cancer and now I have a Derek on the left side.” But there have also been beautiful moments in the past few months, like Sarah revealed: “I have a new grandchild! I’ve had the pleasure of meeting some very inspiring people from all over the world who have beautiful stories to tell.”
By Derek, Sarah means her operated breast, which she named after her mastectomy. The reason: It “made her laugh that she now has a boyfriend who is with her all the time and protects her with his armored shield,” Sarah explained in her podcast “Tea Talks with the Duchess and Sarah.”
