Maestro viewers are devastated by blundering Tjitske Reidinga: “best moment of the evening”

At first glance, the TV program Maestro may seem a somewhat boring program. Who wants to watch classical music for an hour? Well, the participating celebrities make it entertaining after all. As a result, the TV program also creates more appreciation for the music. Although Maestro sometimes produces quite hilarious TV, as viewers will see in the first episode on Sunday evening. The blundering Tjitske Reidinga in particular gets a lot of laughs.

First episode of new season Maestro

The TV show Maestro has already started season 6. That immediately proves what a popular program it is. Celebrities are also quite queuing up to participate. A number of well-known names are participating again this season. Think of presenter Chris Zegers, journalist Roos Moggré, singer Pepijn Lanen (known from De Jeugd van Today) and singer Ammar Bozoglu. We also see musician Frédérique Spigt, stand-up comedian Glodi Lugungu and the famous actress Tjitske Reidinga. The latter in particular appears to be a nice addition to the company this season, which ventures into classical music pieces. Just for the record: they learn to conduct during the program. Only they are always thrown into the deep end in the first episode. This way the jury sees what the celebrities have to offer at the beginning. Which of them turns out to be a natural talent?

Tjitske Reidinga in Maestro

Well, Tjitske is certainly not a natural talent. Already in her introductory video she indicates that she knows “absolutely nothing” about conducting. Oops! In the meantime, the actress, best known as Claire in Gooische Vrouwen, works in a flower stable. “I just hope I survive,” she says. We then see how the candidates are introduced to their pieces of music. In the first episode of Maestro, Tjitske receives the Saber Dance from Aram Chatsjatoerjan. “I really have ADHD music,” is her first reaction. “It just happens super fast.” When singer Ammar hears her song, he immediately laughs. “Shall we switch?” Tjitske then asks him, after which she responds: “I think they want me to explode.” Nevertheless, she is very much looking forward to the Maestro adventure. In the past she also had a lot of exposure to classical music. At the time she didn’t think much of it, but now she certainly appreciates the music. She does call herself “completely unsuitable”. Oh oh!

During rehearsal she can barely pronounce the composer’s name. She then calls her piece of music “very soothing”, but it is certainly not that. “It’s kind of a mix of Bugs Bunny having a nervous breakdown and running away really fast,” she describes her song. “I was hoping for something dramatic and slow.” In retrospect, her description seems like an excellent summary of how she conducts on stage. *wink*

“Giving a jet”

Tjitske is the last to show her first conducting skills on stage. By the way, she comes after Glodi, who is not making a very good impression on the jury. But for Tjitske – unfortunately for her – it only gets worse. During her rise we already see how different she is compared to the rest. For example, she walks on stage without heels, just with her feet wrapped in tights. Ha! Then she starts doing some kind of stand-up comedy. “I know: I am the last piece tonight and you have already played very beautifully and well,” she begins. “But you also know that this part that comes next is a kind of very wild, wild chase. So we really have to give it a go!” And she certainly does. She goes at a fast pace, so at one point she can barely stop. “I don’t know how to stop the train anymore,” we hear as a comment during the performance. At one point she stops the performance, but actually too early. Although she is done with it. “There really are limits,” she says exhausted.

Viewers are screaming

Presenter Frits Sissing still wonders what happened. “I just didn’t know where I was anymore,” Tjitske responds. “I just thought: oh, how wonderful. They are going at this killer pace.” The jury is a bit speechless, especially Dominic Seldis. He continuously asks for help from fellow jury member Isabelle van Keulen. “Good heavens,” is all she wrote down. “And then I suddenly thought of Tom and Jerry,” she says. The jury mainly thought it was funny. She also receives a ‘ten’ from the new jury member Ed Spanjaard for her facial expression. Not really of course, in reality she gets a three, four and five. Aww. In any case, the jury and viewers of Maestro laughed. And together with the other candidates, she will continue for at least one more round, because no one has to go home. Yay!

You can watch the first episode of Maestro via NPO Start. Maestro can be seen every Sunday at 8:30 PM on NPO1.
