The creative queen receives equally creative letters.
Yesterday was of course Valentine’s Day, the day of love and romance. But it was also exactly a month ago that the Danish Queen Margrethe started enjoying her retirement. She now thanks everyone via Instagram for the endless expressions of support she has received since her abdication.
Abdication
While the Glamial editors were enjoying a cocktail and good company on New Year’s Eve, the news came as a bolt from the blue that the Danish Queen Margrethe had announced that she would step down in her traditional end-of-year speech.
Exactly 52 years after she ascended the throne, she thought it was time to end it. And so the queen can fully focus on her endless creative hobbies in the coming years, while her son ensures that all royal affairs run smoothly.
Gratitude
There was also great surprise among the Danes themselves when Margrethe announced her resignation. And after more than half a century on the throne, the Danes en masse wanted to show their support and gratitude for HM.

The Queen is now sharing a small sneak peek via Instagram of some of the creative excesses that have been received by the former head of state. We see, among other things, a number of artistic cut-and-paste works, and various illustrations where the majesty next to King Frederik and Queen Mary can be recognized to a greater or lesser extent. “Thank you for being the best queen!”, one of the works of art can be read. In another extensive letter, Margrethe receives friendly greetings from a certain Maja, who has written down her heartfelt wish ‘that King Frederik X will be a good king’. Cute!
Margrethe herself writes in the photo that it has done her good to have received the ‘warm attention from all parts of the Danish kingdom’ since she announced her resignation.
“My sincere thanks for the gifts I have received and to everyone who wrote, drew, baked, knitted, flagged, sang or otherwise sent greetings on the occasion of the enthronement. I take the many greetings to heart, and I have appreciated each and every one of them,” said Margrethe.
