When she was 12, she had surgery for the condition.

World Scoliosis Awareness Day
Scoliosis, a lateral curvature of the spine, affects people all over the world. Princess Eugenie, who underwent surgery for the condition at the age of 12, has always been very open about the subject. On World Scoliosis Awareness Day, she proudly shared her scar on Instagram to encourage others struggling with the condition.

To reinforce her message, the princess calls on her followers to be proud of their scoliosis scar and share a photo of it with her. “Let’s be proud of our scars! I’d love to repost all your images in my Stories, so please tag me and I’ll share them,” the daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson wrote on Instagram.
Operation
During the 2002 operation, which lasted eight hours, Princess Eugenie had titanium pins placed along her spine to ensure that it would grow straight again. She then had to recuperate for months, wear a special brace and initially had to rely on her parents and caregivers to even turn over in bed. Her life was on hold for months, she had to learn to sit, stand and walk again.
“After the operation I felt empty and angry at everything and everyone,” she once said in an interview in The Telegraph. “But at the same time I also had confidence in the doctors and my parents who all said that everything would be fine.”
Wedding Dress
The photo shows her in her wedding dress, with a low-cut back and without a veil. The dress was specially designed to make her scar the focal point of her look. “I think the scars on your body tell your story and remind you how strong you had to be and that you survived and that you can talk about it,” said the princess.
Another fun fact: the surgeon who operated on her at the time was also invited to her big day. Awww!
