After a long period of absence, King Charles took his public duties up again today. Together with Camilla, he visited the cancer treatment center UCH Macmillan Cancer Centre, where he spoke to patients and medical specialists.

With the exception of the annual Easter service, the king has only been seen in recent weeks audiences and private affairs. But today the time had finally come: Charles and Camilla went on his first working visit since February.
Early this afternoon Their Majesties arrived at Macmillan Cancer Center where they were welcomed by patients and staff.

Create attention
Ultimately, the king’s visit was also largely symbolic. After his own experience with the disease, this is a good opportunity to draw extra attention to the importance of an early diagnosis. He previously called it ‘heartwarming’ that his own diagnosis has increased ‘public understanding’ of the disease and brought attention to the work of organizations for patients and their families.
Working visit
This was the king’s first working visit since his cancer diagnosis, which was announced by Buckingham Palace in early February. His public work was temporarily stopped so that he could fully focus on the treatment. And there was good news about this last week: “The medical team is very encouraged by the progress made so far and remains positive about the king’s further recovery,” a spokesperson for the Royal House said.
However, the fact that the king resumes his royal duties does not mean that he has been cured of cancer. The medical treatment has therefore not yet been fully completed. We wish him all the strength in the journey to come!
