Putting together an outfit down to the last detail, and then regretting your choice of clothing afterwards: it is a well-known problem – even for the royal ladies. Princess Kate once revealed that she was very disappointed with the Christmas outfit she had worn that day.
Elegance par excellence
During the holidays you naturally want to go all out and choose clothing items that you usually don’t take out of the closet. Even fashion icon Kate has had to deal with this, and told her story to a royal fan.
Four years ago, the princess wore a clothing item that she was anything but happy with. It was a festive day as it was Christmas and the Royal Family were on standby at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham. For the occasion, Kate wore a beautiful gray Catherine Walker faux fur coat, which she paired with a green Sylvia Fletcher hat, sheer tights and green suede block heels. An elegant whole, as can be seen in the photos.
Overheated
Despite the elegance, Kate felt anything but comfortable. The jacket was extremely heavy and not a good combination with the mild temperatures on that day. It didn’t take long before the princess noticed that she was overheating.
Bad news for Kate, because according to the late Queen Elizabeth’s ‘rule’ she is not allowed to just take off her coat. In fact, there are rumors that female members of The Royal Family are not allowed to remove their outerwear in public appearances according to protocol, and when it is in front of others, it can even be labeled ‘unfeminine’. In other words, that coat had to stay on.
‘I really shouldn’t have worn this’
To a royal fan standing on the sidelines, the duchess candidly expressed her grievances, of course out of earshot of the queen. “Kate was talking to my daughter about clothes and how she was too hot,” Karen Anvil told Metro. “She said, ‘I really shouldn’t have worn this’.” Check the weather forecast from now on, Your Royal Highness!
