A cleaning job where you thought not much could go wrong. Yet this is not entirely true. Mistakes are sometimes made and we have listed them for you. Which of these things do you secretly do while mopping?
The most common mistakes made while mopping
Of course, we don’t want stripes on the floor.
1. Too much cleaning agent
You might think that you need some cleaning agent before mopping. We often use too much. However, this is not necessary at all. This often leaves all kinds of soap residue behind. It is best to use a small drop of cleaning agent in combination with cold water.
2. Too wet
Of course, you can also have the mop too wet. It will then take a long time for the floor to dry. This often does not make your floor any cleaner and, with a bit of bad luck, you will see dried-up water circles. So it is better to mop with a damp mop, but not soaked. If you feel that it is not yet clean enough, it is better to visit again. This way you at least prevent spots.
3. Mop with warm water
But isn’t that the intention? It may feel a bit strange, but you shouldn’t mop your floor with hot water. This water evaporates quickly on a floor. Residues of the cleaning agent often remain behind because they could not evaporate as quickly. You often get a greasy and spotty result and that is of course not what you want. Therefore, dissolve your cleaning agent in lukewarm or cold water. It may take a little longer for the floor to dry, but you are guaranteed a better result.
Other tips
Of course we have a few other tips for a streak-free floor. It is important to vacuum before mopping. Be sure to do this thoroughly, otherwise you will mop the dust bunnies and you don’t want this. This actually creates extra stripes. Replace your soapy water regularly and preferably mop with two buckets. One is for your dirty mop and the other is for clean soapy water. As soon as you start mopping with one soapy solution, the floor will remain just as dirty. It might get even dirtier. Take any residue you have in your water back onto the floor. Of course you want to prevent this.
