About the hairdo
We know different types of ponies. We have the straight bangs, the slanted bangs, curtain bangs, micro fringe. So what exactly is a ‘baby pony’, or in English: baby bangs? This is a fringe that sits above the eyebrow. And although this also applies to the micro fringe, this pony is a bit less ‘edgy’. The baby bangs are a bit smoother and less hard than the straight-cut micro fringe.
In demand again
We haven’t seen baby bangs in a while, but the trend is not new. Sian Wood, art director at hair salon Taylor Taylor London, tells Stylist UK that the trend originated in the 1920s. Dancer, singer and style icon Josephine Baker was already rocking the hairdo in the 1920s and in the 1950s, stars such as Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn were known for their baby bangs – although they were not always referred to that way. And then they were the IT hairstyle again in the nineties.
“Baby bangs experienced a revival in the ’90s under pop stars like Gwen Stefani, who gave the hairstyle a more edgy, club vibe.” And in 2024 we are also expected to experience a revival of the hairstyle. The baby bangs rose in popularity again after we saw them a while ago on Euphoria star Alexa Demie, among others.

Stylish haircut
Bangs are not everyone’s cup of tea. Moreover, you should keep in mind that bangs do not match every face shape. Do you have an oval face or are your cheekbones a bit higher? Then, according to Wood, it can look very nice.
“Baby bangs can make the face look longer and help accentuate the eyes.” The hair specialist advises people with an angular face or a heart-shaped face to be careful with this hairstyle, as a hairstyle without bangs often looks better on them.
