These ways help to relieve your menstrual cramps

Menstruation often does not come at a convenient time. All those side effects such as cramps are anything but welcome. Fortunately, there are solutions you can easily do at home to reduce this pain!

This is how you relieve menstrual cramps

Warm temperature

Many people probably already do this, but it remains a good way to relieve cramps. The heat causes your muscles to relax. Your uterus is also a muscle. This will therefore tighten less. There are different options to apply heat to your body. The most common is to use a hot water bottle. Only use warm water. Also check before use whether the jar is still intact. If you don’t do this, the jar may explode, so be careful.

A warm bath or shower is also an option. This has the same effect as a hot water bottle, but you just do it for a shorter time. Running the water from the shower or constantly changing the water in the bath is not good for your wallet or the environment. Therefore, combine the use of a hot water bottle with a warm shower or bath.

Drink a lot of water

Besides the fact that drinking a lot of water ensures that your period is less intense, it also ensures that the pain is less. The more water you drink, the more water you retain. When your body feels dehydrated, it makes cramps worse. Alternate cold water with warm water. In addition to hydration, warm water is also relaxing, just like the other hot water options.

If all that water drinking comes out of your nose, alternate it with food that contains a lot of water. Melon, celery or cucumber are good alternatives for those liters of water. Do not replace all the water with your meal, just drink some of it to keep it tasty.

To play sports

Exercise is not the first thing you think of when trying to relieve cramps. Still, it’s a good idea to at least try. By exercising your body produces endorphins. This substance ensures that your body feels less pain. So no uterine pain either. You do not have to do vigorous activities right away. Exercises such as a treadmill or yoga often help. Furthermore, walking around is also a good start.

Massage

Massaging your abdominal muscles is a good idea. Using essential oils in particular has a good effect on pain and cramps. Floral oils such as lavender or rose are good options. Cinnamon also has a positive effect. Mix the oils with coconut oil to allow the oil to be absorbed extra well. Massage the oils by making a circular motion with your hand on the abdominal muscles. It is important to know whether you are allergic to certain oils. Test this by, for example, putting a small drop somewhere else on your body and see what happens. Of course, you don’t want your entire stomach to turn red because you are allergic.

Vitamins

Taking extra vitamins during menstruation also helps against pain and severe cramps. The best supplements and vitamins to take are vitamin B, omega 3, magnesium and iron. A vitamin B deficiency makes you feel lethargic and tired. This feeling is worse during menstruation. So you don’t want to fortify it with little vitamin B. Therefore, take extra, so that your symptoms do not get worse in any case. Omega 3 makes your body feel less ‘inflamed’. Magnesium helps your body to get its hormones in order, making your menstrual side effects less intense. You lose a lot of blood during menstruation. Therefore, take more iron to keep your blood levels up.

Diet

Don’t feel like taking all the pills? Then choose a diet with food that already contains the supplements. Avoid saturated fats such as bacon, butter and chips. An excess of salt is also not good for the body during menstruation. Also avoid caffeine. Instead of coffee, drink water or tea with a low caffeine content. Nuts, fish and vegetables are good foods to get the right nutrients.
