The annual New Year’s reception of the royal family took place at the Grand Ducal Palace in Luxembourg on Thursday evening. Members of several important government institutions were invited. And it was quite a chic affair, including tiaras, prom dresses and uniforms!
Proud family
Several guests from government institutions were invited to the New Year’s reception. The president was present, as were other members of parliament and government, members of the Council of State and representatives of the judiciary and the diplomatic corps.
The royal family itself was not completely complete. In the pictures we see the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess posing with eldest son Guillaume and his wife Stéphanie, daughter Alexandra and her husband Nicholas Bagory, and third son Louis.
We can understand the absence of Prince Felix and Princess Claire. Last week they welcomed their third child, Balthazar Felix Karl!

Royal tiaras
For the occasion, the royal ladies have again conjured up the most beautiful tiaras from the Luxembourg collection. María Teresa wears the Belgian scroll tiara, Stéphanie chose the Grand Duchess Marie Adelaide tiara, and Alexandra’s head is adorned with the Grape Leaves tiara.
Baby bump
If you look very closely at the photos, you might be able to spot Princess Alexandra’s baby bump. A month ago, the Luxembourg court announced that she is expecting her first child! The baby will be born in the spring.
This first offspring for Alexandra and Nicolas is of course not the first grandchild for the grand ducal couple Henri and María Teresa. The little one will soon have no fewer than five nephews and a niece to play with! Just last year, Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie appeared at the New Year’s reception with a bulging baby bump. She gave birth to Prince François in March 2023.
Year of highlights
The past year had many highlights for the Luxembourgers. Babies being born, the marriage between Alexandra and Nicolas… The family couldn’t believe their happiness! The royals shared an overview of all the wonderful events on Instagram at the end of last year. “2023 was a year full of happiness and emotions for the Grand Ducal Family,” the caption read.
We hope, of course, that 2024 will bring them just as many wonderful things!
