The king and the princess are having a great time!
Like many Euroyals au moment, King Felipe and Queen Letizia are now true empty nesters, with one daughter undergoing military training away from home, and the second daughter attending a prestigious boarding school in Wales (yes, that one). Fortunately, as commander of the Spanish army, fathers can occasionally take a look at the training of his eldest daughter, Leonor.
Princess in the army
Where our Amalia took a gap year after obtaining her school diploma and is now busy studying, things are slightly different in Spain. After obtaining her International Baccalaureate at the same school as our own Princess Alexia, Leonor continued with military training.
Last summer was an emotional farewell to her family, and since then we have seen Leonor appear several times in military uniform at various events with her parents. Last week the tables were turned, and what King Felipe came to taste of his daughter’s life.
Father visiting
During the visit, which according to Vanitatis took place last Friday, the monarch personally visited the Centro Nacional de Adiestramiento de San Gregorio. The 22nd Company trained here – which coincidentally also included his daughter.
Here, of course, friendly hands were shaken (also ‘normal’ with Cadet Leonor), and the monarch entered into conversation with the soldiers present.

But let’s face it: it’s clear from the snapshots we have of the day that HRH is simply very proud of his little girl.

Moreover, the monarch is not afraid to simply sit on a steel bench with the recruits present and enjoy a military meal.

Apparently Leonor is also having a great time with her father by her side!
Military training
When her time at the Academia General Milita is over, that doesn’t mean Leonor’s military training is over. This was followed by a year in the Spanish Navy, and the princess spent the last part of her three-year training in the Spanish Air Force. Who knows: will we soon see daddy Felipe in a wetsuit or pilot helmet?
