A task that we prefer to postpone as long as possible: vacuuming. But how often should we do it to maintain a healthy home?
How often should we vacuum?
To put it briefly: there is no clear guideline on how often we should use the vacuum cleaner. This varies per household, size of the house, how many people live there, and how often you have people over. In general, you will need to dust the house about once a week, but do you have pets or children? It is then recommended to do this twice a week. If you are not used to walking around the house with shoes on, once every two weeks is also fine, for the top floor(s).

Some more tips to get the most out of the vacuuming session:
- Tidying up is important if you want to get to everything. First, clear any large objects from the floor so that any remaining items can fit through the vacuum’s hose (if they can get away, that is).
- Then dust off. All the dust falls down this way, allowing the vacuum cleaner to pick it up. After all, you are not going to vacuum the top of the cupboard.
- Vacuum room by room, not the first half of the living room and then the hallway.
- Make a zigzagging motion with the vacuum cleaner. This way you avoid skipping places.
- Those attachments that come with it are there for a reason. Use a different attachment for corners and other hard-to-reach places, such as skirting boards and grooves. Also use a carpet attachment to vacuum the carpet better.
