An unpleasant interruption to his tropical birthday vacation…
Again bad luck for King Harald: he fell ill during his birthday holiday in Malaysia. The Norwegian monarch is again struggling with an infection and has been admitted to a Malaysian hospital this time.
Tropical vacation
Exactly a week ago there was a big party at the court in Oslo. King Harald blew out no fewer than 87 candles, and that of course had to be celebrated. And the monarch did so as monarchs do: with a lot of pomp and circumstance and a holiday to a tropical location. Harald traveled to beautiful Malaysia, but had to cancel the trip when he unexpectedly became ill.
Infection
The Norwegian court reports that Harald has been admitted to a hospital in Malaysia due to an infection. “The king is receiving good guidance from both Malaysian and Norwegian medical staff,” the statement said.
Medical file
Although it must be a first in a Malaysian hospital, this is certainly not the first time that Harald has seen the inside of a hospital. The monarch has been struggling with his health for some time and has built up a considerable medical file in recent years. For example, he was diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2003, had to undergo heart surgery in 2005 and 2020, and was also admitted several times last year.
Unstoppable
So now it is an infection that the Norwegian king is struggling with. Unpleasant of course, but knowing Harald he will get through this too. When he was diagnosed with a respiratory infection earlier this month, he was completely up and running again less than a week later. Armed with his walking stick, he appeared at an event a few days later, against everyone’s expectations.
However, we hope that the frost will take it a little easier this time, so that he can recover properly, and perhaps even plan a new holiday. Get well soon, Your Majesty!
