They have hundreds, if not thousands, of outfits in their closet. When they visit somewhere for the second time, you would expect the royals to wear something different. But that is not always the case…
Let’s start with the star of this website: Queen Máxima. About five years ago she visited the Dutch Bank twice. Not only the host, Klaas Knot, was present both times; Máxima’s salmon pink dress from Natan was also present twice.
In June and September 2018, Máxima visited a project in Enschede twice. Both times she wore her lilac dress from Natan. Because there was only a three-month gap, the repetition was immediately noticeable.
Twice Qatar, twice a light pink frilled dress with a matching cardigan from Natan.
When Máxima is working for the UN, she regularly wears her red trouser suit from Claes Iversen. Below you see her twice at a UN annual meeting in New York.
Of course, a duplication does not necessarily have to do with carelessness or a bad memory. By wearing the same clothes for the same occasion, you can also ensure that more attention is paid to the content rather than the form. For example, Máxima also wore the same outfit at the 2019 and 2021 UN annual meetings.
And sometimes it is also a conscious wink. For example, on King’s Day 2018, Princess Alexia wore exactly the same denim jacket as her mother on Queen’s Day 2004. The reason? Groningen was the location for both visits.
Máxima is no exception when it comes to duplication. Mary of Denmark wore the same Claes Iversen cloak twice at the opening of the Danish parliament. Left 2017, right 2022.
