These 4 common mistakes cause unnecessary stress at work

If you prevent this, your stress level will be a lot lower.

Do you have a busy job? Then there is a good chance that stress will sometimes be involved. That’s not always a bad thing, but before you know it you can’t see the forest for the trees. And that is not the intention! Therefore, be careful that you do not unintentionally make these four mistakes, as this will save you a lot of stress.

Stress management

We don’t have to tell you that stress is not good for your health. Stress at work will also affect your daily life. Your sleep quality deteriorates, so there is a good chance that you will sleep worse. You will notice this the next day in your energy level – and if you do not have enough energy, there is a good chance that you will eat unhealthy again. So some stress management is very important. How do you approach that? We will help you on your way. These four ‘mistakes’ are made by many people in the workplace. If you prevent this, your stress level will be a lot lower.

1. No planning
Do you have a lot to do, but productivity is hard to find? Then it is important to regain focus. This is extremely important to do a lot during a working day. How do you achieve this? Shopify CEO Tobi Lütke uses the ‘time hacking’ principle for this. You work with time blocks in your agenda, in which you work on certain priorities. Plan the big tasks in these time blocks so that you can quickly get into a good flow. Small tasks such as answering emails are not allowed during these time blocks.

2. Procrastination
Do you often save the most difficult tasks for the end of the day and then move them on to the next day? A typical case of procrastination. Stop this immediately if you want to avoid stress. Procrastination causes a lot of stress, because the difficult task remains in your head (unnecessarily long). In addition, research shows that your willpower decreases during the day. If you don’t feel like it in the morning, you will only feel less so in the afternoon. So start with the most difficult tasks when you are still fresh and fruity, then you still have enough energy and you can cross them off straight away. A good start to the day!

3. No morning routine
Does every morning look different for you? This can also be a source of stress. If you stand next to your bed at 6 a.m. one day and stay in bed until 9 a.m. the next day, this is not good for your health. Time to take a closer look at that morning routine! Rhythm and regularity are good for our body. If you get up and have breakfast at the same time every day, your body will eventually know when it is time to go to work. This makes you productive much faster. If you have to show up at work at a fixed time every day, that routine is probably already largely in place. Do you work from home a lot? Then it is wise to put together your own morning routine before you get started.

4. No break
Are you so busy that you eat your breakfast behind the laptop and regularly skip the lunch break? Occasionally this is not a problem at all, but it should not become a habit. Rest in your working day is extremely important. If you take a break, even for a few minutes, you give your brain a chance to catch its breath. The best tip? Take a (short) walk during your lunch break. Twenty minutes outdoors can do a lot of good for your stress level. “Walking has a preventive effect against stress, because it is good for your immune system due to the hormones that are released. You can prevent all kinds of ailments, such as cardiovascular disease. It pays off in the end. Employees who exercise more are less likely to get sick,” KWBN director Paul Sanders told the AD.
