Beatrix is also traditionally present!
With the arrival of 2024, it is time again for the annual New Year’s reception of the Oranjes! Today, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima traditionally receive all Dutch guests at the Royal Palace in Amsterdam.
New Year’s receptions
Last week we wrote about Máxima’s visit to the United States, but the queen has now returned. Today the royal couple is in Amsterdam for day one of the traditional New Year’s receptions. On this first day they welcome several hundred guests from different sectors of Dutch society. That means a lot of shaking hands!
The royal couple did not let the winter weather bother them and arrived at the Palace on Dam beaming. An umbrella was needed to keep Wim-Lex dry…
But a little later, Willem-Alexander and Máxima stood dry under the entrance gate, where they cheerfully waved to the press present.
Máxima wears trousers, a soft pink turtleneck and blouse. Furthermore, Josine Droogendijk of Fashion Queen Màxima tells us that the queen is wearing a bead necklace with ammonite (spiral fossil), which she previously wore in the summer of 2016.
Also present on this first day of the New Year’s reception: Princess Beatrix!
Princess Margriet and Prof. are usually also present. Mr. Pieter van Vollenhoven was present during the New Year’s receptions, but unfortunately we have not been able to catch a glimpse of them yet…
The program
The New Year’s reception consists of two days in total. On the first day, the king and queen receive politicians, public administrators, and other people from Dutch society. Each year, a specific group of people from society is also highlighted. This year these are representatives who deal with the theme of ‘grassroots sports’.
Tomorrow, Willem-Alexander and Màxima will open their palace doors to ‘foreign diplomats and representatives of international organizations based in the Netherlands’, according to the RVD. Princess Beatrix will not be present on this second day.
