Do you ever let your four-legged friend sleep in bed with you at night? That may be nice, but not really a good idea. Amanda Gommo (51) from Bristol also found this out. She was admitted to hospital after her dog pooped on her head while she was sleeping. Fiercely!

Together with chihuahua Belle, 51-year-old Amanda took an afternoon nap. Belle was sick and suffered from diarrhea. Something every dog experiences at some point. But then the unexpected happened. While Amanda slept with her mouth open, the chihuahua sat on top of her. You guessed it: some diarrhea ended up in Amanda’s mouth… “While I was taking an afternoon nap with Belle, as I always do, I suddenly felt something squirt into my mouth. It was horrible. I couldn’t get the taste not out of my mouth,” she told South West News Service.
Shortly after the incident, Amanda’s daughter took the pooch to the vet. Stomach flu was the diagnosis. Later that day, Amanda herself developed symptoms that were very similar to the complaints of dog Belle. She quickly sought medical attention.
Hospitalized
Amanda was given painkillers to take home, along with the advice to drink plenty of water. Unfortunately, the complaints only got worse. “The cramps got worse and worse until I felt them all over my body – even in my legs,” she says. “I was so dehydrated from being sick and having diarrhea that my kidneys had shrunk to half their size.”
Infection
She was soon taken in an ambulance to the hospital, where Amanda received a new diagnosis: a gastrointestinal infection. Caused by the incident with dog Belle. She was treated in hospital for three days. The infection was flushed out through an IV. “My discharge letter stated that I had suffered a gastrointestinal infection caused by a dog pooping in my mouth, something doctors had never seen before,” she told South West News Service.
