Now that 2023 is behind us, we can take stock: what were our highs and lows of the year? Which royals emerged as fashion queens and who missed the fashion mark? And above all: what could all that splendor cost? Our favorite fashion platform, UFO No More, has, as usual, put the numbers back together.
Royal fashion
Day in and day out, wave friendly, wear crowns, and constantly look your business best or most royal: behind all the royal appearances lie impressive wardrobes. Although recycling outfits is now becoming increasingly common, we still regularly see new designer pieces or gem-set works of art.
Throughout the year, the experts at UFO No More keep track of exactly what the various royal ladies are wearing, and now that 2023 is complete, they have compared all the figures to answer the big question: cuánto cuesta?
Taking the cake
It won’t surprise you that a lot of money is involved in all those gigantic wardrobes. But one of Europe’s royal ladies stands head and shoulders above her colleagues when it comes to her wardrobe. We are talking about new garments with a total value of no less than €371,822 – endless designer pieces, Swiss luxury labels, and of course the necessary diamonds. You’ve probably already guessed it: we’re talking about Princess Charlene of Monaco. All the new items she pulled out of the closet had an average price tag of €2,974 each.
Princess Kate is in third place this year with a total wardrobe value of €110,859, and Luxembourg’s Grand Duchess Maria Teresa took fifth place with new items totaling €106,405.
Second and fourth place? This year they will be occupied by the York princesses! The experts from UFO No More and the Instagram account Royal Fashion Police explain that this is due to a number of significant outliers. For example, both Eugenie and Beatrice wore jewelry from the legendary label Garrard during the coronation, and the sisters also showed up in (most likely borrowed) designer outfits from Fendi and Richard Quinn respectively at the Vogue World event in London.
These unique extravaganzas even earn Eugenie the top position when it comes to average price per piece with a whopping value of €6,766. The total value of her new clothing and accessories is also €196,219. Sister Beatrice keeps things a little more modest in that sense: the total value of her outfits is €108,053.98, with an average value per piece of €1,742.

And our queen?
Of course, our Máxima’s wardrobe has also been examined. It has debuted around 116 new items throughout 2023, 67 of which have been included in the calculations. In total, these garments would be worth €51,696, with an average price of €771.
Of course, all these amounts are in fact estimates. After all, people know that a royal who wears your label is a fantastic showcase for your brand. There will undoubtedly have been considerable borrowing or sponsorship from all the royal wardrobes. In addition, UFO No More explains that there are often custom dresses for which prices cannot be determined, or that existing designs are adapted especially for the royal clientele. That’s why it remains a bit of a guess as to exactly what euros are in the cupboard at the royals’ home.
In any case, the following applies: even with millions in the bank account, taste cannot be bought. However, you can hire a stylist.
