Charles, Kate and Sarah were both diagnosed with cancer this year.
Just three weeks after hearing the news that Sarah Ferguson had been cured of breast cancer, she was diagnosed with skin cancer. During her appearance at the Cannes Film Festival, she shares an update on her health and opens up about the disease, which currently connects her to family members Charles and Kate in an annoying but special way.
Skin cancer
After her breast cancer diagnosis in June last year, Sarah Ferguson suffered another blow at the beginning of this year. The Duchess was diagnosed with skin cancer. A mole she had removed turned out to be a malignant melanoma. Earlier this year, Sarah shared that she is in the best hands and said she remained positive thanks to the support of her family. “I’m doing very well tonight,” said the Duchess, dressed in a glamorous outfit. “I think we managed to get the cancer under control, instead of letting the cancer rule my life.”
She adds that it is good to be aware of continuing to get checked and, above all, to be very open about it. She states: “I think a lot of people find it scary to talk about these things.” She thinks differently about that. “I am very happy with my mastectomy and my breasts and I enjoy talking about them,” she says.
Same boat
Sarah’s diagnosis coincided with the cancer diagnoses of both her brother-in-law, King Charles, and her niece, Princess Kate. Fergie says she has been able to offer them support by continuing to emphasize that family unity is key. “I think the key to life is that we all support each other.” And forgiveness is also important, according to Sarah. “I think forgiveness of yourself, and forgiveness of others, is a wonderful thing,” she added.
