Gerben entered the Married at First Sight adventure with good courage, but soon discovered that his match was not the dream partner he had hoped for. The moment Gerben was told that a match had been found for him in Married at First Sight, it was a big shock. “When I heard it I just thought: wow.” He had sent a video message to the makers of Married at First Sight and was selected to come to the test days. “Then I thought for a moment: okay, then maybe it will really happen.”
‘The one’
Gerben already knew his match, Erik, from dating life. He even had a premonition that Erik might be his one. “I had dreamed about him and then thought: what if he is standing at the altar. Because yes, he had given himself up after all. From that moment on I started thinking about that constantly. Soon he will be there..”
Friends and then look further
And yes, that’s what happened. It took some time for Gerben to get used to suddenly getting married and then going on a trip. “You get married in one go and then go on a trip, so that came in handy, yes.” To take the pressure off, the men decided to ‘keep taking it easy’. “We have agreed that we will put the word ‘marriage’ aside for a while. We see each other as friends for a while and then we look further.” Unfortunately, Erik took it so easy that the romance died out.

Although Gerben did not find love, he is now a well-known face. “That’s really special. I can’t go outside anymore without it being like: hey Gerben! You really have people who are very direct and come to you. I think it’s all fine.”
Love after Married at First Sight?
When it comes to love, Gerben is currently on the back burner. “No new love yet. I do receive a lot of nice and sweet messages. I’m looking and I think: I’ll see what comes my way.”
