Dinner together? That is not the case with the royal family.
Today we are joining us en masse for a Christmas dinner. And while you can imagine what that looks like for most people, it always remains a guess with the royals. Fortunately, there are always a number of loose-lipped guests who can provide a glimpse of what a royal Christmas celebration is like. Like Mike Tindall, who once shared a funny detail about Christmas lunch at Windsor Castle.
Christmas with the royals
Lunch with the royal family in a Christmas atmosphere? We would love to be there. Unfortunately, in the last month of the year we usually have to make do with a few stately family photos and some snapshots of an early Christmas reception. An official Christmas lunch within the palace walls is of course reserved for the royal family itself. Yet, thanks to Mike Tindall, we can still get a glimpse of what a lunch in the palace is like. And that’s not just the two of us at one big table.
Seperate rooms
Because it’s all well and good, all those families and little royals, but where do you put them? Very simple, at a separate table in another room. Mike explains: “At Christmas lunch there were about seventy of us, and there are seven rooms in total. The children have a separate small table, which is in another room.” He himself sat at the table with Charles, who was still a prince at the time, and was very pleased with the food. “It was delicious, very good.”
Libra and cocktails
In addition to this revelation from Mike, we’ve learned even more details about the Windsors’ Christmas get-togethers. For example, it seems to be a tradition to weigh yourself before and after Christmas dinner to determine whether you’ve eaten enough (yes, really!), and things can get pretty intense when tea is swapped for cocktails. So it seems that things are also going well within the palace walls during the holidays!
