The sports world recently had to cope with a serious loss: Emperor Franz Beckenbauer died at the age of 78 surrounded by his family. The sports icon has struggled with health problems in recent years. On Friday, the former football coach was buried in his parents’ grave in Munich. His long-time club colleague Stefan Effenberg (55) is very affected by Franz’s death.
“He was a great person…” says the 55-year-old in the live broadcast of Sport1’s “Doppelpass”. But then the ex-national player’s emotions get the better of him and he leaves the group in tears. After a few minutes, Stefan returns to the cameras. “Nobody has to be embarrassed about their emotion,” says the moderator Florian King (56) sensitive.
Also Franz’s former teammate Sepp Maier (79) was moved by the death of the former footballer. “What else would I like to say to you now? That you should please wait for me in heaven. You still need me as a goalkeeper,” he said Sepp his friend emotional lines in an open letter.
