When you think of a state visit, you may think of shaking hands, laying wreaths, meetings and glamorous events. It may not sound very child-friendly, but it turns out to be perfectly possible! The Bhutanese king and queen Jigme Khesar and Jetsun Pema proved this this week.
State visit
The state visit of the Bhutanese royals to nearby Bangladesh started last Monday. Four days full of ceremonial ceremonies and official business are on the program here. King Jigme Khesar, for example, entered into a conversation with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajed, during which topics such as health care, the influx of Bhutanese students, and ‘mutual prosperity’ were discussed, according to the Dhaka Tribune.

But apparently the first days of the state visit also revolved around other big questions, such as ‘how does a tricycle actually work’ and ‘which colorful cart is the most princely’?
Some sweet photos were shared of Bhutanese Druk Gyalpo (Dragon King) pushing his youngest son, Prince Ugyen Wangchuck, on a small bicycle through the Jamuna state guesthouse.
The little prince, who just celebrated his fourth birthday last week, was also captured in a cheerful attraction at the guest house.
And once outside, cycling went well without dad’s help!
The youngest son also had a great time during a game of basketball with his older brother, Crown Prince Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck. What do we think: did the little prince hit the target here?
Moreover, even the youngest child, the six-month-old princess Sonam Yangden Wangchuck, was introduced to all kinds of prominent figures by her father. How sweet is this snapshot?!
Learned young
However, for their eldest son, Prince Namgyel, the visit was not just about entertainment at the guesthouse. No! The eight-year-old (!) also had some official duties during the visit.
Shaking hands is clearly something that is learned from childhood. Well – if you have to develop one skill as a royal, that’s it, nun?
The Crown Prince also posed for a sweet photo with the Prime Minister of Bangladesh. And if you look closely, you will see his little brother in the background having a nice chat with Sheik Rehana, the politician’s sister.
In short: taking your kids on a state visit? That’s great, and it even produces a lot of nice snapshots for the family album!
