There’s work to be done!
The majestic garden of one of King Charles and Queen Camilla’s homes, Sandringham Estate, is getting a major upgrade. And with 8,000 hectares of land, that is quite a generous job.
Lower Maze Garden
In an Instagram post from the property – yes, a royal house deserves its own page – you can read that the Lower Maze Garden is currently under construction. The video shows a glimpse of the beautiful garden in the making.
“In addition to the Topiary Garden, which was added to the West Lawn last year, work is currently underway on the Lower Maze Garden,” reads the description below the post. A number of highlights will be added to complete the estate, so that visitors can enjoy it in the summer of 2024.

The monarchs’ Norfolk country estate – which sits on an 8,000-acre estate – includes a working farm and rental properties, as well as Sandringham House. Traditionally, the British royals always go to Sandringham on Christmas Day, where you may know the estate from. It is a beautiful sight every year: the British royals walking towards the church in Sandringham while chatting in their Sunday clothes.
King of gardening
Although this job is of course outsourced to an impressive team, Charles certainly does not turn his hand to a job in the garden. The monarch previously told Gardeners’ World that as a child he “grew vegetables and stuff” in a plot near Buckingham Palace with his little sister Princess Anne. He also fondly remembers his grandmother’s garden at the Royal Lodge in Windsor.
Charles said: “I remember as a child being absolutely fascinated as I wandered around looking at all the plants. The smell and everything about it had a profound effect on me.” He added: “I don’t know why, but I also started to love trees, they have always fascinated me.”
The grounds of Highgrove, which has been Charles’ country home for forty years, have also been open to the public since 1994 as a way to raise money for charity. He lovingly curated the gardens, creating a series of individual ‘outdoor rooms’ that he opens to the public every summer. The grounds of fifteen (!) hectares are an abundance of colorful flowers.
